ORLANDO - Over Dennis Scott's NBA tenure, the former Orlando Magic guard was ahead of his time with his sharpshooting ability.

And now that legacy will live forever in Magic history.

"Dennis was really on the front end of the proliferation of shooting the three pointer in the NBA," Magic CEO Alex Martins said. "And here we are so many years later, and his record still stands. That's why he's really deserving of being in our Hall of Fame."

Scott was drafted No. 4 overall in the 1990 NBA Draft by Orlando, making an immediate impact for a franchise that was founded just a year prior.

In his rookie campaign, the 6-8 wing posted 15.7 points and 2.9 rebounds, while earning his way onto the 1991 NBA All-Rookie First Team.

After missing the postseason over his first three seasons, Orlando drafted fellow franchise legends Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway.

The young core, which also included team cornerstones such as Nick Anderson, Anthony Bowie and Scott Skiles reached the playoffs for three consecutive seasons from 1994-1996 ... including an NBA Finals appearance in 1995.

"Being one of the pillars that helped the fans of Orlando and Central Florida, to fall in love with basketball," Scott said. "If I recall, when I first got here, it was more of a college town, it wasn't really an NBA town. So I think I'm one of those guys that helped change the narrative or the mindset that, 'hey, if I have extra cash, I can go watch a quality NBA game and fall in love with some young guys."

Over 25 years after his playing his final game for the Magic in 1997, Scott still holds franchise records in career three-pointers (981), three's made in a season (267) and in a game (11).

"As a person he was incredible and as a player, he was even more incredible," Martins said. "The fact that his franchise three-point record still stands today is absolutely incredible, particularly in this day and age. This city and this community couldn't imagine NBA basketball not being here anymore and it started with him and many of his teammates at that time."

The Magic is back in action on Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets
