Magic PF Jonathan Isaac 'Never Staying Healthy' Again; Trade Target?

Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac played in 11 games last season after missing the past two years due to injury.
In this story:

When Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac was on the court over his first three seasons, he appeared to be the first piece to this rebuild.

The No. 6 pick in 2017, Isaac averaged 2.3 blocks and 1.6 steals over 34 games in 2020-2021 before a torn ACL put an abrupt halt to that promise.

And despite making his long-awaited return to the court last January, a torn adductor muscle in March ended Isaac's campaign once again.

Now once thought to be a key building block, it's unclear how much longer the Florida State product will be in Orlando. In a trade proposed by Bleacher Report, the San Antonio Spurs acquired Isaac from the Magic for Doug McDermott and a 2024 second-round pick (via LAL).

"Myriad injuries have limited Jonathan Isaac to 11 games over the last three seasons, and the smart money is probably on him never staying healthy enough to be a regular contributor again," Bleacher Report writes.

While McDermott would not only give the Magic a career 41 percent three-point shooter, but also somebody who has played over 60 games in seven of his nine seasons.

"Meanwhile, the Magic get a quality shooter and cutter who actually plays games," Bleacher Report writes. "Plus, McDermott's deal will expire after he earns $13.7 million this coming season. The Magic should also view him as more likely than Isaac to help in a playoff push."

And for a Magic team who has its eyes on the postseason, the last sentence could prove to be the final factor in a potential trade.
