Magic Shows Promise in Summer League Loss vs. Pistons

The Detroit Pistons grabbed a win against the Orlando Magic, but there's still reason to be hopeful.
In this story:

ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic is walking away from its first Las Vegas Summer League game in the loss column after falling 89-78 to the Detroit Pistons Saturday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Headlining the Magic roster were lottery picks Anthony Black (No. 6) and Jett Howard (No. 11), who had two very different debuts.

Black was efficient from the field, making 7 of his 10 shots for 17 points. He also added five rebounds and five assists, but racked up six of Orlando's 18 turnovers.

Howard struggled with his shot, making just 3 of 13 attempts for eight points.

The player who shined the most for the Magic was two-way player Kevon Harris, who scored a team-high 21. Harris' hustle and defense were on display, and he looked like the team's most NBA-ready player. Caleb Houstan, last year's second-round pick, also looked like a veteran, making four threes for 12 points.

Ultimately, the Magic failed to come up with a win, but there's enough of a baseline for the team to build off of as Orlando forays into the rest of its Summer League showcase.

The Magic returns to action Monday against No. 8 overall pick Jarace Walker and the Indiana Pacers. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
