The Osceola Magic got its guy.

An offseason that witnessed the G League team - originally based out of Lakeland - undergo some rebranding, now has its head coach for this upcoming season.

Former assistant coach Dylan Murphy, who spent the last five years working in Orlando as a basketball operations analyst (2018-2020) where he provided analytics support to the coaching staff, and the next three as an assistant coach (2020-23), brings a long list of experience to the inaugural Osceola season.

“Dylan has done a tremendous job in regard to player development in his role as an assistant coach with the Magic,” Weltman said in a statement. “He also brings past G League experience and we look forward to his continued leadership and seamless connectivity between the Osceola and Orlando Magic.”

And not only does Murphy bring NBA experience to the team, but also a G League championship ring. Before his stops in Orlando and Ball State University, where he served as a graduate assistant with the men’s basketball team at Ball State University in 2018, Murphy won the 2014 G League Championship as an assistant for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants - posting a league-best 34-16 record and perfect 6-0 mark in the playoffs.

Murphy will also serve as the organizations head coach throughout NBA Summer League this year, getting an opportunity to coach some of his future players.

Murphy and the Magic look to build on its 18-14 regular season record from last season.
