'It's Really Special': Orlando Magic Star Paolo Banchero Wins Eastern Conference Player of the Week
The Orlando Magic has won seven games in a row, and that success is due in no small part to the great play of the team's young star, Paolo Banchero.
Banchero is averaging 19.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game so far this season, and is one of the most consistent players in the league. What is really impressive is Banchero's shooting percentages, as he is shooting 48 percent from the field, and a very impressive 43 percent from beyond the arc.
The Magic's impressive play as of late has led to the team getting more attention, and this has led to Banchero getting his first Eastern Conference Player of the Week award. He talked about how much this recognition means in an interview on Monday.
"Yeah, it's really special," Banchero said. "It's a nice award to get. You know, just the way we've been playing, get recognized throughout the whole league or the Eastern Conference is nice."
In the past week, Banchero has averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5 assists, leading the team to a 4-0 record. With the team being a successful as it is, Banchero is getting more attention, so this could be the first of many Player of the Week awards.
How Magic Qualifies for In-Season Tournament Knockout Round
Banchero and the Magic have an important stretch of games coming up, as the team will be looking to further extend its win streak, and hopefully get it to double-digits. The team will be back in action on Wednesday against a struggling Washington Wizards team. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET from the Amway Center.
