OFFICIAL: Magic Signs 76ers Ex, Dunk Contest Champ Mac McClung
ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic is making it official with one of its recent signees continues with training camp just a few weeks away.
The Magic announced that it has signed former Philadelphia 76ers guard Mac McClung to a partially-guaranteed deal.
McClung, 24, has four games of NBA experience since going undrafted in 2021 out of Texas Tech. However, he is best known for winning the NBA Slam Dunk Contest back in February, despite not having played in the league up until that point in the season.
McClung eventually played in a pair of games for the Sixers after the All-Star Break, including a 20-point performance against the Brooklyn Nets in the season finale.
Among all G League players that played at least 30 games, his 47.4 percent three-point shooting ranked first and his 54.8 percent field goal shooting ranked ninth. Those were significant improvements from his first year in the G League when he shot 46.7 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from deep.
Overall, McClung finished with a 71.6 percent true shooting mark in his time with the Blue Coats. For context, Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic had the highest true shooting percentage in the NBA last season at 70.1 percent.
The Magic signing McClung comes shortly after the team agreed to terms with reigning G League MVP Trevelin Queen and former Utah Jazz guard Miye Oni. Orlando appears to be adding as much talent as possible on the open market to create competition in training camp later in September.
McClung's deal is partially-guaranteed, which could mean that the Magic has some plans for him. However, Orlando already has a very crowded backcourt rotation, so it will be hard to crack it.
Perhaps McClung will be an option to join the Osceola Magic in the G League or a candidate for the team's third two-way slot.
