Mavs Sign Lakers Ex Alex Fudge to Two-Way Contract

After converting AJ Lawson’s two-way contract to a standard contract on Sunday, the Dallas Mavericks have now signed former Los Angeles Lakers project Alex Fudge to a two-way deal.

Following a disheartening loss to the shorthanded Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday afternoon, the Dallas Mavericks converted AJ Lawson’s two-way contract to a standard, long-term NBA contract, making him eligible to be with the team for the postseason.

That move opened up one of the Mavs’ three two-way slots, and they didn’t waste any time filling that third spot. On Monday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Mavs have signed former Los Angeles Lakers project Alex Fudge to a two-way deal.

“Free agent F Alex Fudge has agreed on a two-way deal with the Dallas Mavericks, Shayaun Saee of One Legacy Sports tells ESPN,” Wojnarowski posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Fudge — who had been on a two-way with Lakers — has been playing for G League South Bay.”

In 18 games for the South Bay Lakers, Fudge averaged 8.1 points and 5.0 rebounds in 17.3 minutes while shooting 46.7 percent from the field. The 6-8 forward has a seven-foot wingspan and is only 20 years old, so perhaps the Mavs feel like there’s some untapped potential they can bring out by signing Fudge to a two-way contract.

If anything, this gives the Mavs’ G League affiliate, the Texas Legends, another useful weapon to work with going forward.
