Mavs Insider: Details on Bojan Bogdanovic Trade Talks with Pistons

Though the Mavericks have been very active so far this offseason, they might not be done as a trade could be on the horizon.

The Dallas Mavericks have been one of the more talked about teams during this NBA offseason, as they've found themselves in numerous trade rumors while making several moves to revamp their roster.

For the Mavs, the next presumed move on their to-do list is to finally land a veteran starting center while rookie Dereck Lively II takes the time to develop before he's ready to take the reins. But what if the Mavericks have another type of trade on their mind?

On Friday, The Athletic's Tim Cato reported that the Mavericks and Pistons 'renewed conversations' last week regarding a trade for veteran forward Bojan Bogdanovic, which was discussed at last season's trade deadline. Detroit's cost of requiring a first-round pick in return was too rich for Dallas. However, last week's trade talks included a more realistic framework of a deal to land Bogdanovic in Dallas.

"League sources say that the talks were sturdy enough to discuss a potential trade framework — Bogdanović and Killian Hayes coming to Dallas, Tim Hardaway Jr. and JaVale McGee going out — but it’s unclear what else would have been required from each party to expand it to a four-team deal and what ultimately caused those talks, however serious, to stall," Cato wrote.

Dallas has reportedly been active all offseason in their efforts to trade both Hardaway and McGee, but have yet to find the right deal to do so. Whether the Mavericks eventually find a suitor for Hardaway, McGee isn't expected to be on the opening-day roster. Whether that's due to trade or the Mavs waiving and stretching the remaining two years of his deal remains to be seen.

Last season, Bogdanovic averaged 21.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 48.8 percent from the field and 41.1 percent from 3-point range in 59 games. He would provide Dallas with a trusted third scorer alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in a win-now move. The 34-year old isn't getting any younger, but at the cost of Hardaway and shedding McGee's contract without potentially losing a draft pick, you probably make that move any day of the week if you're Dallas.
