Although it’s been a relatively quiet Friday around the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks have made a front office move worth taking note of. According to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Mavs are promoting their Senior Director of Pro Personnel Matt Riccardi to Assistant General Manager.

“The Dallas Mavericks are promoting Senior Director of Pro Personnel Matt Riccardi to Assistant General Manager, sources say. Riccardi, a Dallas area native, spent 13 years as an executive in Brooklyn before joining the Mavericks in 2022,” Charania tweeted.

With this promotion, we can assume that Riccardi’s voice will now hold a little more weight in front office decisions. That isn’t to say it didn’t beforehand, but this is clearly a step up the ladder for Riccardi.

The Mavs’ front office power structure is clear, with Mark Cuban as owner, Nico Harrison as General Manager, Michael Finely as Vice President of Basketball Operations, and now Riccardi as Assistant General Manager. Dallas also brought on former longtime Utah Jazz executive Dennis Lindsey this summer to have a front office advisory role with the Mavs.

After missing the postseason for the first time since Luka Doncic’s rookie season in 2018-19, the Mavs made some dramatic changes to their roster this summer. Newcomers for the upcoming season include Grant Williams, Seth Curry, Dereck Lively II, OMax Prosper, Dante Exum, Derrick Jones Jr., Richaun Holmes and others.
