Dallas Cowboys Fans Mad at Dallas Mavs’ Grant Williams Wearing Philadelphia Eagles Jersey; Here’s the Real Issue

DFW fans are upset with Dallas Mavericks forward Grant Williams supporting the Philadelphia Eagles instead of the Dallas Cowboys.

Believe it or not, players for NBA teams can be fans of NFL teams outside of the market they play for. For Dallas Mavericks forward Grant Williams, that NFL team just so happens to be the Philadelphia Eagles ... and the Eagles just so happen to be the Dallas Cowboys' biggest rivals.

After the Eagles defeated the Cowboys in a tightly-contested game on Sunday, Williams, after scoring 18 points on 7-9 shooting in the Mavs' 124-118 win over the Charlotte Hornets, showed up to his postgame press conference in a Jason Kelce Eagles jersey.

This lit many Dallas fans on fire on social media, but do they forget that former Mavs guard Jalen Brunson was also an Eagles fan? How about the time Brunson lost a bet with Luka Doncic and had to wear a Cowboys jersey that said "Luka's Son" on the back … and then when Brunson returned the favor to Doncic? Was there any outrage over Cowboys star Micah Parsons has been seen wearing a Philadelphia 76ers jersey?

A lot of fans take rivalries seriously, and that’s understandable. It’s called a rivalry for a reason. Bragging rights matter. But at the end of the day, it’s sports, and if you’re going to condemn one local player for supporting a rival football team, that same energy should be put toward the star football player who supports an out-of-market basketball team, right?

What I’m about to say is going to sound harsh, but it’s true truth … and keep in mind that I am a Cowboys fan and supporter myself.

Cowboys fans aren’t really mad at Williams, they’re just mad that their team lost a big game to a big rival, and they’re taking it out on Williams because his team won and he’s happy about it. The Cowboys seem to be incapable of winning games against good teams, and that’s the root of the problem here.

So go ahead and support your Philadelphia Eagles, Grant Williams … and be sure to make some fun bets with Luka Doncic during future matchups with the Cowboys. As long as Williams is shooting north of 50 percent for his 6-1 team, Mavs fans who are also Cowboys fans should be able to stomach his football rooting interests.
