Luka Doncic Wild Mavs Trade Speculation Leads to Jalen Brunson & Knicks Rumor
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic says he's happy here and obviously the Mavs have no intention of trading him.
"I'm happy here,'' Luka recently said. "Nothing to worry (about).''
Nevertheless, after he and his teammates bottomed out down the stretch this year - complete with indications of Doncic's "unhappiness'' and an admission of "fear'' from the front office - the rumor mill has been triggered.
And "Silly Season'' has begun.
Bleacher Report mentioned several teams that could make a push for the 2023 NBA All-Star, including the New York Knicks, writing, "New York could offer multiple draft picks, Barrett, Quickley and Grimes to the Mavericks. And with the Knicks, Luka would be reunited with ... (Jalen) Brunson.''
The Knicks are fresh off of a Game 1 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in this year's Eastern Conference first-round series and have seen marked improvement with the addition of Brunson. But it goes without saying what Doncic would do in a New York uniform.
And if we take seriously the B/R suggestion? Really, we cannot. The additions of Barrett, Quickley, Grimes and assets would give the Mavericks "young talent'' but would also see Dallas sink even deeper in the race for true contention.
Other teams mentioned by B/R are the Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz and the recipient of the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NBA Draft. ... and each idea is as wild and silly as the next. And yet we don't blame B/R for "the wild and the silly.''
Blame "the wild and silly'' Mavs. They brought this on themselves.
