Dallas Mavs' 50-Point Blowout vs. Utah Jazz Sets Up Possible Win Streak; Was Luka Doncic Onto Something?
Following the Dallas Mavericks 147-97 win over the Utah Jazz Wednesday night, things are setting up for a possible win streak with two very winnable games on the docket for Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving's newly-healthy squad.
In their last drop at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder, a historic 30-0 run fell short in the 126-120 loss, but it surely gave momentum. The Mavs were in peak form offensively just four nights later in the American Airlines Center, shooting 55.4 percent from the field in a 50-point blowout over the depleted Jazz, just the win they needed to bring their two-game skid to a halt.
"We just got to play like this more times and we’re going to win a lot of games," said Doncic on Saturday, foreshadowing what was to come on Wednesday.
On Friday night, the Mavs head to Portland where they will face off against a Deandre Ayton and Jerami Grant-deprived Portland Trail Blazers team with little size and defensive prowess to contend with the likes of Doncic and Irving, and without Ayton to guard 7-1 rookie starting center Dereck Lively II in the paint, we could see a big game from the rookie.
Following a trip to Portland, the Mavs fly to the other side of the Western Conference to Grind City on Monday where they will take on the struggling Memphis Grizzlies. Without multiple players in their lineup, the Grizzlies may be in for another big loss with the Mavs sporting both a healthy Doncic and Irving. The Mavs lost their last game against the Grizzlies, but Doncic missed that one due to the birth of his daughter.
Lots of hope runs through the Mavs organization with the return of Irving and Tim Hardaway Jr., and with Grant Williams eyeing a return soon as well, the team will be ready for a tough home stand. The Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves come to town in those two games, and the Mavs will need all hands on deck come next week to continue the momentum created on Wednesday.
