Official: Mavs to Play in Abu Dhabi During 2023 NBA Preseason

The Mavericks will kick start their 2023-24 preseason in Abu Dhabi against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

There's a lot of uncertainty hovering over the Dallas Mavericks heading into the offseason with Kyrie Irving set for free agency and a number of questions surrounding the roster. But, one thing for certain is that the Mavs are headed to the Persian Gulf come October.

On Tuesday, the NBA and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi announced that the Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves will partake in the NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2023 in two preseason matchups on Oct. 5 and Oct. 7 at Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

"The Dallas Mavericks certainly recognize the importance of globalizing the game of basketball. For many years, we have enjoyed international players and a growing international fanbase," Mavericks CEO Cynthia Marshall said. "We are honored to play the game we love for NBA fans in Abu Dhabi and around the world. We appreciate all who have worked so hard to create this exciting opportunity for our team and our fans."

The partnership between the NBA and DCT Abu Dhabi saw the Atlanta Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks play in two games last preseason, which was the league's first game in the area. Outside of the two preseason games, there will be numerous fan events such as NBA Fit clinics and an NBA 2K League exhibition.
