Horseshoe Hopes: Mavs Find New Path to Lottery Luck?

The Dallas Mavericks have never once moved up in the NBA Draft Lottery in team history, so they’re trying something different this year in hopes of changing that.
In this story:

When you haven't had any NBA Draft Lottery luck in franchise history, you start to take drastic measures. The Dallas Mavericks, who will be represented by GM Nico Harrison on Tuesday night in Chicago, have started that process, as they've been passing a blue horseshoe around the team's offices as a good-luck charm.

The lottery odds are the lottery odds, and they don’t care about these good-luck charm attempts, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to try something new, right? As long as the Mavs find a way to get that horseshoe in the hands of Dirk Nowitzki before Tuesday night, we’re good with this move.

On today’s episode of the Mavs Step Back Podcast, we discuss Dallas’ attempt to swing lottery fortune in its favor, as well as previewing the NBA’s conference finals matchups. The playoffs have already been exciting and unpredictable, and that very well could continue with the Denver Nuggets taking on the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics taking on the Miami Heat.

With the lottery coming up on Tuesday night, the Mavs have a 3.0-percent chance of winning the No. 1 overall pick and a chance to pair Victor Wembanyama with Luka Doncic. They also have a 13.9-percent chance of jumping into the top-four picks.
