Dallas Mavs Injury Report: Kyrie Irving Headlines 4 Key Inactive Players vs. Memphis Grizzlies
MEMPHIS — The Dallas Mavericks will continue to deploy a depleted supporting cast around Luka Doncic when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies during Monday's matchup. The Mavs will seek to extend its two-game winning streak to improve to 14-8 through 22 games but will be without essential players.
Kyrie Irving went down with a foot injury during the second quarter of the Mavs' 125-112 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. He was later diagnosed with a right heel contusion after returning to Dallas to undergo an MRI. There is no timetable for his return as he begins the rehab process.
None of the Mavs' role players that have remained on the injury report have been described as having a predicted timetable for return, either. Grant Williams (right knee bone bruise), Josh Green (right elbow sprain), and Maxi Kleber (right small toe dislocation) have already been ruled out against the Grizzlies.
Williams' injury designation went from "knee soreness" on previously submitted reports to a "right knee bone bruise" on the latest report. He did not participate in practice on Sunday, and it could be a challenge to get practice time in early in the week before ramping up to make a return this week.
The Mavs will play back-to-back games to begin the week, and the NBA rules will prevent the team from practicing on Tuesday. The team returns to action on Thursday when they face the Minnesota Timberwolves, then begin a two-game road trip with another matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday.
With Green and Irving sidelined, the Mavs can turn to Dante Exum, Seth Curry, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Jaden Hardy to fill some of the void. They will need to potentially rely on two-way contract A.J. Lawson and rookie Olivier-Maxence Prosper on the wing while Kleber and Williams remain sidelined.
The Grizzlies will be without various important players, including Ja Morant (league suspension), Steven Adams (right knee PCL surgery), Brandon Clarke (left Achilles tendon repair), Luke Kennard (left knee bone bruise), and Marcus Smart (left foot sprain).
