Dallas Mavs Injury Updates: Will Luka Doncic Play vs. Sacramento Kings?
SACRAMENTO — The stakes are high when the Dallas Mavericks take on the Sacramento Kings on Friday. While the Mavs currently rank sixth in the Western Conference standings, the outcome of the team's rematch would significantly impact the outlook.
Luka Doncic enters Friday's game being questionable to play due to left Achilles soreness. It's the same injury that made him a game-time decision for Tuesday's victory. He was upgraded before warming up and went on to record 28 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.
Other players listed on the Mavs' injury report include Maxi Kleber being questionable due to right knee soreness. Additionally, Josh Green remains sidelined due to a right ankle sprain.
It would surely take a lot for Doncic to not play against the Kings considering he naturally views the mini-series as being "very big games."
"Very big games," Doncic said after Monday's win over the Utah Jazz. "It's tough to play in Sacramento; the crowd is going, and they have a lot of great players, so it's going to be tough two games, for sure. We have to be ready. We have to stay together for 48 minutes and be physical."
After achieving a blowout victory over the Kings and having multiple days off before facing off against each other again, the Mavs expect a physical matchup. Not having Doncic would be a tough obstacle to overcome, requiring Kyrie Irving to step into a role as being the team's top option. When playing without Doncic, Irving has averaged 31.5 points, 7.5 assists and 5.7 rebounds in six games this season.
Doncic has averaged 33.9 points, 9.8 assists and 9.1 rebounds in 63 games this season. He leads the NBA in scoring aveage by a wide-margin and ranks third in assists per game. He's continued to produce historic results while leading the team to a 40-23 record when he's in the lineup.
