Mavs Post-Lottery Reactions: Mock Drafts, Trade Scenarios & More

Following the NBA Draft Lottery, the Mavs Step Back Podcast crew gave their initial reactions to the Dallas Mavericks kept their 2023 first-round pick at No. 10. A handful of trade scenarios were presented as well.
In this story:

After the dust settled following the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday night, 'relieved' was the word Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison used to describe his immediate feelings about his team retaining its top-10 pick.

"[I was] relieved once it got to the 11th pick and I knew we at least would get the 10th pick," Harrison told DallasBasketball.com's Grant Afseth in an exclusive interview after the lottery announcements took place.

If the Mavs' pick had fallen to 11th, it would've been conveyed to the New York Knicks in order to finish up the 2019 Kristaps Porzingis trade. So, even though Dallas had to watch its rival San Antonio Spurs win the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes, at least Harrison and company avoided the worst-case scenario of losing this year's pick altogether. Pick No. 10 is better than no pick at all, especially in this 2023 draft class, which is one of the deeper ones we've seen in years.

On this episode of the Mavs Step Back Podcast, we give our initial reactions to the Mavs' lottery-day results, look at several different updated mock drafts, which have the Mavs selecting a different player in each one, propose a handful of different trade scenarios involving the 10th pick, and much, much more! Names like Pascal Siakam, Bam Adebayo, Jarace Walker, Gradey Dick and Dereck Lively II are all discussed in this one.
