Grizzlies' Dillon Brooks Calls Out Mavs' Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving: ‘They Ain’t Ready’

Memphis Grizzlies guard/forward Dillon Brooks made some bold comments directed at Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

MEMPHIS — Dillon Brooks has brought no shortage of attention to the Memphis Grizzlies for his on-court antics and comments about his NBA peers. He recently got into it with Draymond Green during a matchup against the Golden State Warriors. His focus is now on the Dallas Mavericks.

Brooks took aim at Green by saying "at least he doesn't get into physical altercations" with his teammates, referencing when Green struck his teammate, Jordan Poole, during training camp.

After the Grizzlies' morning shootaround on Saturday, Brooks made some bold comments about both Mavs superstars, Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.

Doncic has already been ruled out for Saturday's game as he recovers from a quad injury. Brooks called out Doncic for not returning to the Mavs' lineup, stating that he's avoiding a "physical game."

"It goes to show that sometimes they ain't ready to come back to a physical game," Brooks said of Doncic.

With the Mavs and Grizzlies facing off against each other on Monday, Brooks says "hopefully" Doncic is able to play on in the next matchup.

“I hope Luka gets back for the next game so I can guard him," Brooks told ESPN. "I didn’t get a chance to guard him the first game and he had a great game [Oct. 22 when Brooks was hurt]. So I wanna see where I’m at.”

Brooks expressed that he'll have to "settle" for matching up against Irving, who recalled trash talk from the Mavs superstar while he was a member of the Brooklyn Nets.

"Now I get to get him by himself today," Brooks said of Irving. "I want to see what he's all about, so I can't wait to pick him up full every single time and see him get exhausted."

Irving was asked about Brooks' comments, which garnered a respectful response from the Mavs superstar. Irving made clear that as long as things don't go beyond an inappropriate, personal level, the competitive nature is great for the game, and the league at large.

"Dillon hopes every best player plays, just because it makes the game a lot better competive-wise," Irving told ESPN. "There's been a lot going on with him, seeing him in the middle of all the Draymond stuff. I mean, it makes it great for our league, but at the same time there's a maturity that we've got to have. "

Irving explained: "Nothing should go over the line of personal stuff. If we keep it strictly on the floor, but once it gets, I mean, you know what it turns into out there."

It still remains to be seen if Irving will be available to play during Saturday's matchup as he is listed as questionable due to right foot soreness. He played 41 minutes in the Mavs' recent loss against the New Orleans Pelicans.
