NBA Title Odds: Top 10 for Mavs After Trades, Free-Agency Signings?

The Dallas Mavericks, led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, hold the tenth-best odds to win the NBA Championship.
In this story:

The Dallas Mavericks have had a successful offseason. On top of re-signing Kyrie Irving, the Mavericks signed Grant Williams via a sign-and-trade. Overall, they put their star duo of Irving and Luka Doncic in a better position to succeed.

Following a sequence of good moves, the Mavericks currently hold +2300 odds to win the 2024 NBA Championship, good for the 10th-best odds, according to FanDuel.

When looking at the teams with better odds than the Mavericks, there are five Western Conference teams ahead of them, with one of those teams being the reigning champions, the Denver Nuggets.

Now, the Irving and Doncic duo will have proper time to grow, as they only played together in 16 games at the end of last season while also nursing injuries. With an offseason, training camp and start of regular season together, the two will learn how to play even better in tandem than what we've already witnessed.

As mentioned, the Mavericks brought in the former Boston Celtics forward in Williams. He and Irving have both played in an NBA Finals, with Irving having taken home hardware once in 2016 with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

On top of the addition of Grant, the team drafted Dereck Lively and Olivier Maxence-Prosper. These two players will add depth to the team and allow the team to keep a fresh, young presence on the squad.

To add another layer of depth, the Mavericks signed Seth Curry, former Maverick who returns to the squad for his third stint, and Dante Exum, who makes his return to the NBA after having a productive last two years in the EuroLeague.

All-in-all, the Mavericks turned what could have been a disastrous offseason into a good set of moves. They have equipped their two stars with the depth and spacing needed to build a high-powered offense, and there's now some semblance of a defense as well.

If the squad can string together enough effort on the defensive end, the team will be a tough force on any given night. We don't expect to see the same Mavericks team we saw struggle at the end of last season, and oddsmakers apparently don't either.
