Dallas Mavs Offer New Maxi Kleber Injury Update
DALLAS — During the Dallas Mavericks' victory over the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, Maxi Kleber suffered a right small toe dislocation. He has remained sidelined since it occurred and doesn't yet have a firm timetable for a return.
Before Sunday's game against the Charlotte Hornets, Mavs coach Jason Kidd shared the latest on Kleber's injury status, describing it as "day-by-day." The team still has to gather a clearer picture before establishing a timetable for return.
"Yeah, I think it's day-by-day," Kidd said. "Hopefully, he feels better. He's been shooting the ball. I think it's just, again, day-by-day for him. And we'll see how he feels after his workout today and see if he goes on a trip. If he does, great. If he doesn't, he continues to rehab it."
The Mavs had ruled Kleber out as early as Saturday before their matchup against the Hornets. The other inclusion on the team's report entering the game was Kyrie Irving, who was probable with a left foot sprain before being considered available. Markieff Morris went from questionable to available despite an illness.
Kleber has averaged 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 points, and 1.5 assists in 18,8 minutes per game this season. He played the season opener against the San Antonio Spurs in a starting center role but has come off the bench behind rookie Dereck Lively II since.
The Mavs continue to rely on Kleber as an option primarily at the four this season but have continued to utilize him as a stretch-five in small-ball lineups. He remains an integral part of the team's fabric due to that versatility, often being the go-to option to be switch-everything option.
There is a quick turnaround for the Mavs before returning to action after their matchup against the Hornets. They will complete the second part of a back-to-back by facing the Orlando Magic at Amway Center on Monday.
