Dallas Mavs NBA Finals or Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl: Which DFW Team Wins Next Championship?

Luka Doncic and Dak Prescott are both having MVP-caliber seasons for the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Cowboys respectively, but which one will lead their team to the promised land first?

Four and a half years ago, we conducted a Twitter poll asking fans which DFW professional sports team would win a championship next: the Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers or Dallas Stars? The results went about as expected at the time:

However, situations change, and the team with only 2.7 percent of votes in that poll, the Rangers, ended up being the first to do it, as they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks in November to win the World Series in five games. And the Stars, who only got 12.8 percent of the poll votes, almost beat the Rangers to it, as they made it to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.

Now, as we’re just a few weeks away from the calendar turning to 2024, we're looking specifically at the Mavs and Cowboys this time — two teams experiencing success this season while being led by two MVP candidates in Luka Doncic and Dak Prescott. Which team will win its next title?

Will Doncic help the Mavs hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the first time since 2011, or will Prescott help the Cowboys shake off years of postseason disappointments to win a Super Bowl for the first time since 1995? Here's a look at how fans feel about it after we conducted a new poll on Thursday:

These results aren't shocking, as there's more margin for error for NBA teams trying to win a championship. The Mavs would be in a best-of-seven scenario if/when they make it to the NBA Finals, whereas the Cowboys would be in a one-and-done scenario in the Super Bowl.

Overall, the Cowboys have a more well-rounded team than the Mavs do. Although the Mavs have a top-five offense this season, their defense ranks 23rd. The Cowboys, however, have a top-five defense to go along with their top-five offense.

It's not crazy to think that both of these teams could win a championship sooner than later, and for DFW sports fans, they're hoping the dream scenario comes true with the Cowboys winning the Super Bowl first in February, followed by the Mavs winning the Finals in June. Could you imagine?
