Mavs Reveal Injury Status for Kyrie Irving & Luka Doncic vs. Warriors
SAN FRANCISCO — The Dallas Mavericks are set to take on the Golden State Warriors on Friday. There is uncertainty surrounding the potential availability of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving for the matchup.
The Mavs submitted an injury report on Friday, listing Doncic as questionable due to left quad soreness. Irving is doubtful as he continues to recover from a right heel contusion. Maxi Kleber remains sidelined due to a right small toe dislocation.
Doncic has played through a left quad injury since after the All-Star break of last season, even acknowledging it was something he needed to manage both while competing for Slovenia at the FIBA World Cup and during Mavs training camp.
Mavs coach Jason Kidd mentioned Doncic "aggravated" it during Dallas' Christmas Day victory over the Phoenix Suns when he recorded 50 points and 15 assists.
"I think just with [Doncic's] left quad soreness, he aggravated it in the Christmas game," Mavs coach Jason Kidd said before Thursday's game. "This is not enough time to recover on a back-to-back. So, he's out."

Irving's injury occurred on Dec. 8 during the Mavs' win over the Portland Trail Blazers when Dwight Powell landed on his leg. After playing 13 minutes, he went to the locker room before being ruled out for the remainder of the game. He has been sidelined since but has recently been in the ramp-up process to return to competition.
The Mavs listed Irving as out for the past 11 games, meaning his status as doubtful against the Warriors is the first time he's been upgraded since the injury. He's continued to work out on the court.
After an 8-2 start to the regular season, the Mavs have failed to sustain that success, going 10-12 since. They have lost five of their previous seven games, with one of their wins coming against the San Antonio Spurs, who lost Victor Wembanyama before the game after stepping on a ball boy's foot in his pre-game workout.
