In this story:

Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks open up the 2023-24 regular season on the road, as they take on No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night.

The Mavs come into this season looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2022-23 campaign that left them outside of the postseason. With the re-signing of Kyrie Irving and the additions of Grant Williams and rookie Dereck Lively II, the Mavericks are hopeful they have the roster to get back into the playoff picture.

For the Spurs, they hit the jackpot once again as they landed the No. 1 overall pick in June's draft, giving them the opportunity to select the generational prospect that is Wembanyama. With a collection of young talent around Wemby, Hall-of-Fame coach Gregg Popovich is hoping the Spurs can climb their way back into playoff contention this season as well.

The Spurs, for the most part, are fully healthy heading into tonight's game while the Mavericks have both Doncic and Jaden Hardy listed as “questionable.” Doncic has been dealing with a mild left calf strain while Hardy sprained his ankle last week, but both were full participants in practice on Monday.

The Lines

Point Spread: Mavericks (-3.5) / Spurs (+3.5)

Money Line: Mavericks (-175) / Spurs (+135)

Over/Under: 227.5

Player Props / Our Picks

Kyrie Irving O/U 41.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists: Under

With Doncic seemingly back in the mix for tonight's game and it being the opener for Dallas, look for the team, especially the newcomers, look to get their footing on night one.

Grant Williams O/U 15.5 Points + Rebounds: Over

Though Dallas drafted Dereck Lively II to be their man in the middle for the future, look for Williams to make a statement in his Mavericks debut by using his physicality to muscle his way to the over with help from the glass.

Victor Wembanyama O/U 6.5 Rebounds: Over

I mean, what else is there to say? When you're 7-foot-4, you'll have rebounds fall into your hands by accident. Give me the over for Wemby.

Prediction: As the rest of the league and fans around the world salivate at getting to watch Wemby in his regular season debut, look for Doncic and the Mavericks to rain on the Spurs' home-opener parade and get the win on the road. Take Dallas -3.5.
