Mavs Sign TCU Guard Mike Miles Jr. to Two-Way NBA Contract: 'We Staying Home!'
Following an eventful NBA Draft that netted Dereck Lively II with the No. 12 pick and Olivier-Maxence Prosper with the No. 24 pick, the Dallas Mavericks kept things rolling in the undrafted free-agent market.
According to a report by The Athletic's Shams Charania, the Mavs are picking up local TCU product Mike Miles Jr. on a two-way contract. Miles was obviously happy about this development, as he followed up Shams' announcement by tweeting out, "We staying home!"
The 6-foot-2 guard spent three years with the Horned Frogs, averaging 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals in 32 minutes per game in his final season. He shot 49.7 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from 3-point range as TCU ultimately lost to Gonzaga in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Despite the 84-81 loss, Miles led the way for his team with 24 points on 8-13 shooting.
What Miles might lack in height, he probably makes up for with strength and grit. Not only is he a reliable shooter, but he is able to break down defenders and get to the rim at will as well. Miles has also shown the ability to get his teammates involved as well.
The NBA's new CBA allows teams to carry three two-way contracts on their rosters now instead of just two, so this move won't affect McKinley Wright IV or A.J. Lawson – the Mavs' other two current two-contract signees – for now. Stay tuned to DallasBasketball.com for more updates, as Mavs GM Nico Harrison has claimed, "We're not done at all. This is just the beginning."
