Former Mavs' Spencer Dinwiddie 'Happy' Seeing Dallas Miss Playoffs

Spencer Dinwiddie is one to always be honest, even when it's showcasing his pettiness toward his former team's demise.
In this story:

Call it pettiness or simply call it human nature, but there's always that warm feeling you get when your enemy – or in this particular case, your former team – fails to reach its goals while you still have a chance to achieve yours.

For former Dallas Mavericks guard Spencer Dinwiddie knows that feeling all too well these days.

Following being traded from Dallas to the Brooklyn Nets in the Kyrie Irving deal, many thought the Mavericks would be the team to make a run at the championship, starting with actually making the playoffs.

Not so fast...

The Nets held their own after losing Irving and Kevin Durant, securing the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference while the Mavericks, well ... we all know how that went. They spiraled out of control in the final two months of the season and missed the play-in tournament altogether.

"I ain't gon' lie, there’s a certain level of happiness from the pettier side of my psyche," Dinwiddie told FanDuel TV on Wednesday.

Totally understandable reaction coming from Dinwiddie. The team that traded him had an end-of-the-season meltdown and tanked their way out of the play-in? Hell, I'd probably have to laugh too.

Although Dinwiddie feels good with how things turned out since the trade, he still felt bad for his former teammates.

"They're my friends though, so I didn't want to see it go down like that," Dinwiddie said. "On the other side -- Theo, Bullock, Luka, all those guys, JaVale -- we went to war together. They're a playoff caliber team. Obviously they had their mishaps and things that didn't allow them to see the postseason."

'Mishaps' is a nicer way of putting it for the Mavericks' downfall at the end of the season.

"Overall, I wanted them to do well but there is that little piece that I ain't gon' lie, I am a little bit happy," Dinwiddie said.

Embrace that pettiness, Spence ... at least while you still can.
