Dallas Mavs Star Kyrie Irving Excited to Reunite with 'Locker Room Leader' Seth Curry

Dallas Mavericks star point guard Kyrie Irving spoke with local media for the first time since last season on Thursday, and he had some great things to say about Seth Curry, who was his teammate with the Brooklyn Nets as well.

Training camp is well underway for the Dallas Mavericks, who underwent a series of roster changes over the offseason in hopes of not only becoming a playoff-caliber team again, but a championship contender as well.

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are the two biggest stars and undisputed leaders for the Mavs, but the supporting cast around them sharing similar leadership qualities is important for the team to reach its true potential.

One of the Mavs' big summer transactions was signing Seth Curry to a two-year, $8 million contract in free agency, bringing him back to Dallas for his third stint since 2016. On Thursday, Irving spoke with local media for the first time since last season ended, and he expressed his excitement for being able to reunite with Curry, who was his teammate with the Brooklyn Nets over the previous two seasons as well.

“I’m excited," Irving said. "He’s an incredible shooter and leader to have in the locker room. It’s gonna be interesting to see him out there with myself and Luka, and [also] the second unit at times. He has a great work ethic.”

Not only does Curry have that 'great work ethic,' but he also happens to be the sixth-best 3-point shooter of all-time by percentage. In 438 career games, Curry has shot 43.5 percent from deep. He had his best-shooting season in 2019-20 – his lone season played with Doncic – where he averaged 12.4 points and shot a career-high 45.2 percent on five attempts per deep per night.

With great shooting, great veteran leadership, and familiarity with the high-level distributors he has around him, Curry figures to be a steal of a deal for the Mavs this season as they look to become a formidable force in the Western Conference once again.
