Warriors' Steph Curry Suffers Ankle Injury; Out Next Week vs. Mavs?
With the 5-10 seeds still up for grabs in the Western Conference, one of the teams the Dallas Mavericks are battling with for seeding may have just been dealt a devastating blow.
Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry suffered a right ankle injury on Thursday night in their 125-122 loss at home to the Chicago Bulls. Curry had an MRI on his ankle, though ESPN Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the imaging came back clean, and the star point guard isn't expected to miss an extended period of time. When Curry returns will depend on how his ankle responds to treatment.
Curry has averaged 26.9 points, 4.9 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game through 59 games this season. He has shot 44.9 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from three.
Curry's injury is significant to the Mavs (35-28) because they face the Warriors (33-29) three times in their final 19 games this season. Along with playing on Wednesday at the American Airlines Center, they face each other on April 2 and on the 5th. The April 2 meeting is a makeup game for their earlier matchup that was scheduled for Jan. 19 before it was postponed after Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević suffered a heart attack on Jan. 16 and passed away on Jan. 17.

The Mavs don't face any other team more than twice for the rest of the season. Dallas is 1-0 against Golden State this season with a 132-122 road win on Dec. 30.
With the Mavs and Warriors separated by only 1.5 games, their three meetings could be the difference between playing for the seventh or eighth seed and having two games to earn a playoff spot or playing in two win-or-go-home games as the ninth or 10th seed. If Curry misses the game on Wednesday or any of the other three meetings, that could give Dallas the edge it needs for better seeding in the play-in or playoffs.
