In this story:

Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks take on Kyle Kuzma and the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night in the second game of their back-to-back. It will be the Mavs' third game of a four-game road trip.

The Mavs are fresh off a disappointing 131-110 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday. Simply put, the Pelicans wanted it more in last night's game as their energy and effort far surpassed what the Mavericks brought to the table. Doncic had his worst game of the season, finishing with just 16 points on 5-of-16 shooting and eight turnovers.

“It happens over the course of the season, but you can’t let it be reoccurring," Mavs forward Grant Williams said after the loss. "We’ve had two or three games – the three losses that we’ve had – that were uncharacteristic of us. We have a game where we don’t do our job [rebounding] in Denver. The game that we lost [vs.] Toronto, they were more physical and out-toughed us, and this game, they played faster than us, they played with a little more edge.

"As we know, [the Pelicans are] very athletic, they do a great job of getting out in transition, it’s hard to beat when they do that. Keep them at half-court and you might have a better chance, and we didn’t do that tonight.”

Mavs' Luka Doncic Ready to Bounce Back from 'Bad Game' vs. Pelicans

The Mavs will now turn their attention to the Wizards, who are coming off their third consecutive loss on Monday night, falling to the Toronto Raptors, 111-107, after blowing a 20-point lead. Kuzma led the Wizards with 34 points on 14-of-25 shooting from the field in the loss.

Going into Wednesday night's matchup, Dallas will be without Maxi Kleber for the sixth straight game with a right toe injury. For Washington, they'll be without former Mav Delon Wright, who is dealing with a left knee sprain.

Player Props / Our Picks

Luka Doncic O/U 29.5 Points: Over

Again, Doncic and the Mavs played their worst game of the season by far in last night's blowout loss to the Pelicans. Going up against a turnstile defense in the Wizards, look for Doncic to bounce back in a big way tonight.

Kyrie Irving O/U 3.5 3PM: Over

After starting the season off slow from a shooting standpoint, Kyrie Irving has gotten hot over the last four games, averaging 25.3 points on 49.3 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from 3-point range on just under five makes per game. Like Doncic, look for Irving to take advantage of Washington's weak defense tonight.

Daniel Gafford O/U 6.5 Rebounds: Over

Daniel Gafford has been a big man that Mavs fans have sort of been enamored with over the past few years as a potential trade option as he's a legit lob threat and protects the rim well. On the season, Gafford is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game. Take the slight over.

Prediction: The Wizards have been one of the bottom three teams so far this season as they give up the third-most points per game to opponents. After a disappointing effort in last night's loss, look for the Mavs to bounce back tonight. Take Dallas -5.5.
