From there, we discuss Christian Wood's lingering contract situation and why a potential Mavs trade with the Atlanta Hawks could make some sense.
In this story:

Despite not having played since Monday, the Dallas Mavericks find themselves back in fifth-place in the Western Conference standings in what has been a crazy NBA season with a lot of parity.

The Mavs will try to build on their win against the Detroit Pistons – a game where Luka Doncic put up 53 points – by taking care of business against a fatigued and struggling New Orleans Pelicans squad on Thursday night. The Pelicans have lost nine games in a row, and they'll be playing in tonight's contest just hours after making the flight from Denver due to Dallas' winter weather conditions.

In other words, there are no excuses for the Mavs in this one. Doncic and company should have no issues putting away New Orleans at American Airlines Center.

On today's episode of the Mavs Step Back Podcast, we discuss the Mavs' rise in the standings and how important this upcoming stretch of games is for the outcome of their season. From there, we talk about the latest update regarding Christian Wood's contract extension negotiations with the Mavs, as well as the latest trade rumors involving Atlanta Hawks' Bogdan Bogdanovic and John Collins.
