Mavs Target Grant Williams 'White' Parties with Cowboys Micah Parsons, A-List Celebs
DALLAS - When former Philadelphia 76ers billionaire Michael Rubin throws a party? It's an A-list deal, held at his $50 million house in the Hamptons, and for July 4th Weekend, it's an "all-white party.'' So the who's who in the worlds of sports and entertainment come together and wear that color and they hobnob ...
Entertainment giants? Oh yeah. People like Beyonce and Jay-Z, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kevin Hart, Justin Bieber and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Sports folks? Oh yeah. Guys like Tom Brady, Kevin Durant, Donovan Mitchell, Joel Embiid, James Harden, Odell Beckham Jr. and Robert Kraft. And Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons? Yup. He's now got the star power to hang.
And Dallas Mavs target Grant Williams, late of the Boston Celtics? Well, maybe he does as well.
Rubin is worth $11 billion and is the CEO of Fanatics, so his gala naturally melds athletes and money together. Williams isn't exactly Durant or Harden or Embiid ... but he's obviously connected.
Now, how do the Mavs get him "connected'' to Dallas? The Mavericks have been reported to have interest in several players. Among those on that list is Williams. His situation is tricky, because he wants more than what the Mavs can offer without having to do a sign-and-trade, which is the $12.4 million MLE. Additionally, even if Dallas got Williams to agree to that amount, the Celtics could still match the offer and retain.
What about a sign-and-trade? According to The Athletic, the Celtics are wanting a first-round pick in exchange. "Boston has been seeking a first-round pick in return for Williams, according to league sources, though it’s rare for a sign-and-trade for a role player to yield that significant of a return," Jared Weiss wrote.
Our Dalton Trigg is voting to tap the brakes there; we're not fans of Williams at that level. He's a defense-first helper, and that would be a plus. But Trigg writes, "Burning your only available first-round pick (2027) for a player of Williams' caliber would be a major mistake. Dallas has some good things going for it after getting Kyrie Irving to re-sign to a long-term deal and drafting promising young rookies Dereck Lively II and OMax Prosper, and there's simply no need to dampen those good vibes by trading a pick for another role player.''
If the Mavs want to give Williams the MLE, that's perfectly acceptable, all the while knowing he might have better offers from other NBA teams. Grant Williams will likely never, however, get a better offer than his invite to the "all-white party.''
