NBA Betting Odds: Mavs Make Shortlist for Joel Embiid Trade

If the Philadelphia 76ers do eventually move on from star big man Joel Embiid, the Dallas Mavericks are a popular destination according to NBA betting oddsmakers.

Philadelphia 76ers star and reigning MVP Joel Embiid sent the NBA world into a frenzy on Monday when a video surfaced of him casting doubt about his future in the City of Brotherly Love.

"I just want to win a championship,” Embiid said on an episode of Uninterrupted. “Whatever it takes. I don't know where that's gonna be. Whether it's in Philly or anywhere else. I just want to have a chance."

The aftermath of those comments resulted in loads of speculation regarding which team Embiid could go to if he did end up requesting a trade. According to BetOnline.ag, the Dallas Mavericks have the third-best odds (+350) of landing the MVP big man. The New York Knicks (+200) and Brooklyn Nets (+250) have the top odds.

We’ve already discussed the pros and cons of the Mavs potentially adding Embiid. On one side, the Mavs would be acquiring a star center they’ve never had before, one that would surely shred opponents next to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. On the flip side of that, though, the Mavs would have to completely gut their newfound depth and high-upside youth in order to pull off a trade, considering they don’t have the draft capital available like the Knicks and Nets do.

No matter which side of the coin you fall on, all of this talk falls into the “pipe-dream” category, and it’s hard to see Embiid requesting a trade out of Philly immediately after winning an MVP. But … this is the NBA, and crazier things have certainly happened. We’ll be keeping an eye on what goes down with the 76ers leading into training camp, as the future of their other star, James Harden, is also up in the air.
