DALLAS - The Dallas Mavericks are using this time to get in shape for the start of what we all believe is a promising season. But the media has an obligation to get ready as well. Thanks to my visit to the Texas State Fair, you can see ... I'm ready.

You also see that my focus is on an ultimate prize: A Mavs outdoor basketball. The "swish'' was so sweet, as were the squeals of an appreciative audience.

What the video does not show, however: I missed 475 shots before finally hitting one, thus costing me (well, actually, thus costing Sports Illustrated, as I plan to expense this whole experience) $1,425.

What you also do not see as part of my "getting in shape for Mavs season'' is the consumption of a dozen or so Fletcher's Corny Dogs. So, yeah, we had almost as much fun as Boban Marjanovic did during his visit ...

And, yeah ... I'm ready.
