WATCH: Mavs' Kyrie Throws Down Monster Alley-Oop in Pro-Am
For the NBA, offseasons are mostly built up of the draft, free agency, trade demands, and Summer League basketball.
But for Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving -- and many other NBA players -- the summer is for playing in and putting on a highlight reel at pro-am events.
On Saturday, Irving competed in the annual More Than A Run All-Star Classic in his home state of New Jersey, where the Mavericks superstar put an on an absolute show for all in attendance alongside fellow NBA players Bones Hyland and former Mavs center Moses Brown.
Irving finished the game with 42 points, six rebounds, eight assists, and three steals with a number of highlight plays, including a monster one-handed alley-oop slam on a fast break.
More Than A Run is a community organization that Irving helps organize, and it provides safe recreation and competitive basketball opportunities within the New Jersey area.
Earlier this summer, Irving also played in the famous Drew League, which was his very first time doing so, believe it or not. When Irving is in the building at one of these summer pro-am events, you better believe the crowd will be full.
And though Irving isn’t necessarily known for his leaping ability and high-flying dunks, he likes to showcase that he can get up off the floor every once in a while to keep the defense honest. If Irving is doing stuff like that this upcoming season, the rest of the league should keep an eye out for the Mavs.
