Kyrie Irving Injury Update: Dallas Mavs Avoid Disaster with 'Just a Bruise,' But 'Significant Pain'

The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly avoided a disaster, as Kyrie Irving's scary injury from Friday night's win over the Portland Trail Blazers is "just a bruise."

The Dallas Mavericks have been holding their breath for the last 18 hours or so as they awaited an update on star point guard Kyrie Irving's injury status. During the second quarter of the Mavs' win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday, Irving suffered a foot injury after Dwight Powell fell on top of him after attempting to tip out an offensive rebound.

Fortunately, the Mavs and their fan base can exhale, because a new report from ESPN's Tim MacMahon states that Irving's injury is "just a bruise" and nothing more.

"Mavs feel fortunate that Kyrie Irving suffered 'just a bruise' from Dwight Powell’s fall on Irving’s right foot, a source told ESPN. Irving has dealt with soreness in that foot throughout the season. His status for Monday’s game in Memphis has yet to be determined," MacMahon posted on X.

Given how the injury looked on replays, the Mavs are indeed extremely fortunate that Irving only has a bruise and nothing more. Before having to exit the game in Portland, Irving was putting together a good performance, scoring 11 points to go with two rebounds and two assists while shooting 4-6 from the field in just 13 minutes.

"The relief from the Mavs is that Kyrie Irving avoided a major injury. He is dealing with significant pain, sources said," MacMahon followed up with another post.

Mavs Coach Jason Kidd Shuts Down False Kyrie Irving Injury Reporting: 'He's Still Here'

BlazersTV put out a false report during last night's broadcast that Irving had left the arena in a wheelchair, essentially fear-mongering the Mavs' fan base on social media. However, that was far from the truth, as Irving was waiting for his teammates when they got back to the locker room after the game.

"He was right there waiting at the door [of the locker room] when we came in," Tim Hardaway Jr. said. "He was good. Great spirits. Just happy that he’s OK. When we all got to the locker room and saw on social media how it looked, the pictures, obviously it didn’t look too good. … Hopefully he won’t be out long.”
