Kyrie Irving Injury Update: Mavs Star Begins ‘Rehabbing Process’ for Return
As the Dallas Mavericks prepare to take on the Houston Rockets tonight with a shell of a roster due to several injuries, there is hope on the horizon that reinforcements are on their way.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Kyrie Irving, who will miss his seventh consecutive game due to a heel contusion he suffered in the Mavs’ win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Dec. 8, is out of a walking boot, not using crutches, and has started his “rehabbing process” to get back on the court.
The Mavs have been able to keep their heads above water with Irving out, but the increased workload has started to wear on Doncic, who has averaged more than 40 minutes per game in December. Irving making his return could be just the boost the Mavs need snap their losing streak and get rolling again.
Mavs' Luka Doncic on Pace for Historic NBA Season, But at What Cost?
For the season, Irving is averaging 23.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 47.1 percent overall and 38.4 percent from 3-point range. Although no official update has been provided by the Mavs, it wouldn’t shock us if Irving made his return for Dallas’ Christmas Day game against the Phoenix Suns.
