Luka Doncic Breaks Dallas Mavs' Record for Most Points Scored in Single Season
Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic is no stranger to breaking records, and he broke a big during Tuesday night's matchup against the Charlotte Hornets.
During the early minutes of the third quarter, Doncic nailed his seventh 3-poniter of the game, which gave him 2,332 points on the season. That total surpassed Mark Aguirre's franchise record of 2,330 that was set during the 1983-84 season.
"[It means] a lot,” Doncic said of breaking the record. “It's the franchise that drafted me. They gave me, they say, 'the keys.' They say it like that, but I'm just glad I'm here in Dallas."
On the season, Doncic is averaging 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists. He is set to become the first player in NBA history to average all those numbers in a single season. Whether it will be enough to win Doncic his first career MVP award has yet to be seen, but he certainly has a solid case.
If the Mavs hold on to defeat the Hornets – as of the time this article was written, Dallas was up 97-83 at the end of the third quarter – they will improve to 49-30 on the season with just three games remaining. Dallas currently has sole possession of the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference.
