NBA Rescinds Technical Foul for Dallas Mavs' Luka Doncic Against Houston Rockets
DALLAS — The NBA announced on Monday that a technical foul assessed to Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic during their 147-136 overtime victory over the Houston Rockets was rescinded.
The league office reviewed and rescinded the technical foul called on Doncic with 0:01 remaining in the first quarter against the Rockets on April 7, 2024. Doncic finished with 37 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds in 45 minutes against Houston.
A player can accumulate up to 16 technical fouls during the regular season before automatically being suspended for one game. A one-game suspension is applied for every two technical fouls incurred beyond this threshold. This total resets in the playoffs with a limit of seven technical fouls.
Doncic's total for technical fouls on the season has been reduced back to 13, with his latest being rescinded. Considering there are only four games left in the regular season, Doncic very likely solidified his outlook to avoid reaching the 16 technical foul limit.
Doncic has had numerous technical fouls rescinded this season and in recent years, resulting in him narrowly avoiding the automatic one-game suspension.
This season, over 53 games, Doncic has maintained averages of 34.5 points, 9.7 assists, and 8.9 rebounds, with shooting percentages of 49.6% from the field, 38.0% from three-point range, and 78.4% from the free-throw line.
The Mavs have played at a high level with Doncic's production being instrumental in those efforts. He's coming off two consecutive months of being named the Western Conference Player of the Week. The team has gone 15-6 with him in the lineup since the NBA All-Star break, averaging 33.1 points, 10.4 assists, and 10.0 rebounds.
