If you watched the Dallas Mavericks' embarrassing performance against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night and thought things couldn't get much worse ... think again.

Ahead of Thursday's highly-anticipated matchup with the red-hot New York Knicks, a wet blanket has been thrown on what will be former Mavs guard Jalen Brunson's first game played at American Airlines Center since leaving Dallas for New York in free agency a year and a half ago.

According to the latest injury report submitted by the Mavs, superstar Luka Doncic will miss Thursday's game due to an ankle sprain. Doncic had been listed as questionable on the injury report for previous games with "ankle swelling," so it apparently has gotten to the point where the four-time All-NBA First Teamer just needs to give it a rest.

In addition to Doncic, Dante Exum (plantar sprain) is also out for the Mavs, Dereck Lively II (ankle sprain) and Maxi Kleber (toe) are listed as doubtful, and Grant Williams (ankle sprain) is listed as questionable.

Why Mavs Should Push for Pascal Siakam Trade, Big 3 with Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving

The Knicks come into AAC having won five consecutive games since swinging a trade for 3-and-D wing O.G. Anunoby. We'll see if Kyrie Irving and company can play the role of "streak-busters" against a tough New York squad while Doncic lets his ankle recover.
