Mark Cuban on Dirk Nowitzki HOF: 'Truly One of The Greatest of All Time'
With Saturday's Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame ceremony just around the corner, Dallas Mavericks fans far and wide are preparing to celebrate the franchise's greatest player, Dirk Nowitzki, who will be enshrined in front of several loved ones, former teammates and peers.
Ahead of this weekend's events, Mavs owner Mark Cuban took some time to talk with us about what he's looking forward to the most, as well as elaborating on what Nowitzki's HOF moment means for Mavs fans.
"Just seeing [Dirk] and his family enjoying all of it will be the highlight [for me]," Cuban tells DallasBasketball.com. "But for Mavs fans around the world, it will be confirmation that he is truly one of the greatest of all time, and we got to watch him for an amazing 21 years."
Those 21 years went by in a blink, as Nowitzki worked his way up from questioning if he was NBA material in his rookie season, to becoming a champion in 2011 and eventually climbing to No. 6 on the league's all-time scoring list. Now, he will be celebrated on basketball's most prestigious stage in Springfield, and he's looking forward to it.
"It still feels super surreal. I'm excited, but also of course, a little anxious and nervous for this weekend," Nowitzki said during Tuesday's Mavs media availability. "We just got back from our travels last weekend. It's been a couple of busy days and I'm already going up to the hall tomorrow. Got some stuff already coming up Thursday, so can't wait to go.
"It'll be an exciting weekend with plenty of friends and family flying from all over the world. So, we're looking forward to a great time."
