Mavs Trade Talk: Could Dallas Land Pacers’ Myles Turner in Three-Team Deal?

With the Pacers showing interest in Raptors' Pascal Siakam, could the Mavs get involved as the third-team and lure Myles Turner away from Indiana?
In this story:

While NBA free agency, for the time being, has slowed down as Summer League has kicked off. The Dallas Mavericks, despite addressing several offseason needs already, have yet to add the desired veteran staring center they seek.

Though Dallas has been mentioned in numerous trade rumors and have been linked to teams regarding the likes of Atlanta Hawks’ Clint Capela, Cleveland Cavaliers’ Jarrett Allen, and Phoenix Suns’ Deandre Ayton, they've yet to make their desired move. However, the offseason is still alive and well.

Reported by NBA Insider Marc Stein on Monday, it's 'increasingly conceivable' that Toronto Raptors' Pascal Siakam could be traded with the Indiana Pacers emerging as a 'legitimate trade contender' for the All-Star forward.

If the Pacers and Raptors were to engage in trade talks, could the Mavericks swoop in to create a three-team deal to land Indiana's Myles Turner? If so, here’s a trade proposal we think could make some sense for all sides.

Proposed trade: Mavericks receive Myles Turner. Pacers receive Pascal Siakam, Tim Hardaway Jr., and a top-3 protected 2027 first-round pick (via DAL). Raptors receive Andrew Nembhard, Buddy Hield, Jalen Smith, and an unprotected 2025 first-round pick, and a top-10 protected 2027 first-round pick (both via IND).

For Dallas, it would finally land its defensive anchor in Turner for the immediate future while rookie Dereck Lively II is given sufficient time to develop instead of being thrown to the wolves in a win-now situation at 19 years old. Turner perfectly fits the mold of the elite rebounding and rim-protecting center the Mavs have been seeking, and he also contains a versatile offensive skillset as a three-level scorer.

The cost for landing Turner in this hypothetical deal sheds the remaining two years of Hardaway's salary, which Dallas is actively shopping, along with going all in with trading their 2027 first-round pick with a top-three protection.

Despite parting with Turner in this scenario, the Pacers would acquire Siakam to pair with fellow All-Star Tyrese Haliburton, helping get Indiana back in the playoff picture while also receiving a future first-round pick from Dallas. Also, bringing in a veteran shooter in Hardaway, who is very familiar with head coach Rick Carlisle from their time together in Dallas. He’d provide Indiana with a scoring threat off the bench and would open up a starting role for second-year player Bennedict Mathurin with Hield's departure.

And for Toronto, it would land two young pieces in Nembhard and Smith, who have both shown promise as contributors, and the expiring contract of Hield and two future first-round picks.

For this proposed deal, the ball would probably be in Indiana's court on their willingness to part with Turner. Ideally, they'd likely want to pair Turner and Siakam together, but with the new acquisitions former Knick Obi Toppin and rookie Jarace Walker, a logjam could be created in their frontcourt.

At the end of the day, if Hardaway Jr. and a future first-rounder is the price to add a center like Turner, the Mavericks should make that deal 10 times out of 10.
