Mavs Rookie OMax Prosper on His Defensive Mindset: 'I Want It More'
Heading into the offseason, Mavs GM Nico Harrison wasted no time letting it be known that the Mavericks would be upgrading both their defense and rebounding during the summer, which spoke to their two draft picks on Thursday.
On Monday, Mavs rookies Dereck Lively II and OMax Prosper were introduced in Dallas, where the Marquette product spoke on how he views his role on this Mavericks team, including his view on making an impact on the defensive end of the floor.
"For me, the biggest thing is being a guy that can really help defensively," Prosper said. "You see this year, Christian Braun with the Nuggets; he came in and embraced his role. Defensively, cutting, finishing -- all those little things and I feel I can be a guy like that and come in and impact this team."
Prosper knows who he is as a player when stepping onto the floor for Dallas on day one. He's going to be a pest on the defensive end of the floor with the versatility to guard multiple positions while showcasing endless energy and activity. On offense, he's going to do it all: set screens, cut to the basket, and knock down open 3-pointers.
Essentially, Prosper has the potential to be this team's version of Dorian Finney-Smith but with potentially a higher overall ceiling for his career.
"It's all about the details, the hustle plays -- who wants it more," Prosper said. "I will want it more than whoever is on the other side. You can count on that."
Yeah, that's the kind of statement that wins over a fan base during your introductory press conference. Mavs fans are already prepared to run through a wall for OMax, and so is he.
