Nets’ Dorian Finney-Smith Trade Price Too High for Mavs Reunion

The Dallas Mavericks would love to have Dorian Finney-Smith back into the fold, but the Brooklyn Nets’ current asking price for him on the trade market would prevent a reunion from happening.

As the Dallas Mavericks continue to search for frontcourt upgrades, former fan favorite and current Brooklyn Nets’ Dorian Finney-Smith is a name that keeps popping up as an option ahead of the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 8.

Although Luka Doncic and the rest of the Mavs would love a reunion with Finney-Smith, the chances of that happening seem slim if the Nets’ reported asking price for him is true.

According to Nets Daily, Brooklyn is seeking two first-round picks for the 30-year-old 3-and-D wing. Given that Dallas gave up its 2029 first-round pick along with Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie in a trade for Kyrie Irving with the Nets last season, it’s hard to imagine the Mavs coming off of more significant draft capital.

In the meantime, though, Finney-Smith isn’t worried about all the outside noise coming from trade rumors.

“It always gets weird around this time in the NBA,” Finney-Smith said ahead of the Nets’ win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. “Just can’t focus on the outside noise. That’s part of it. There’s nothing you can do about it.

Mavs Trade Rumor: Dallas 'Linked' to Reunion with Dorian Finney-Smith

“We’ve all got social media, so you’re going to hear it. It ain’t real. It’s a whole bunch of chit-chatter until something officially happens. I’m a Brooklyn Net, and I want to win. That’s all that matters.”

Through 38 games, Finney-Smith is averaging 9.2 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 39.1 percent from deep. He was a key piece of the Mavs’ 2022 Western Conference Finals run, and he’d be welcomed back to Dallas with open arms if a deal ends up happening. If the Nets are firm on asking for two first-rounders, though, don’t hold your breath.
