Mavs Showing 'Most Interest' in Trade for Warriors' Andrew Wiggins
DALLAS — As the February 8 trade deadline nears, the Dallas Mavericks remain linked to various options on the wing. Entering Saturday's matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks with a 26-22 record, the Mavs need to continue adding talent around Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Dereck Lively II.
According to Matt Moore of Action Network, the Mavs have shown the "most interest" in Andrew Wiggins over the last two weeks. However, details of the talks were admittedly unknown.
"The other player the Warriors are looking to move is Andrew Wiggins, whose plus-minus splits this season are essentially a horror show," Moore wrote. "The team with the most interest in Wiggins over the last two weeks, according to sources, is the Dallas Mavericks. Details of talks aren't known."
Part of the rationale for the Mavs' interest in Wiggins pertains to the disappointing season Grant Williams has provided the team after being acquired in a three-team sign-and-trade on a four-year, $52 million contract.
"Wiggins would provide Dallas with a more stable small forward option who can also play power forward, as free agency acquisition Grant Williams has been disappointing."
Wiggins is having an underachieving season in his own right, averaging 12.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 41 games. He's shooting 44.1 percent from the floor, 31.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 71.7 percent on free throws. He's at the start of a four-year, $109 million contract, earning $24.3 million in 2023-24.

The Mavs need to add more size and athleticism on the wing. Wiggins stands at 6-foot-7 with a 7-foot wingspan, making him an intriguing option from that perspective at the three spots, but Dallas would still have a need at the four spot as they continue to have undersized options.
Moore also reported the Mavs continue to have "significant interest" in Miles Bridges of the Charlotte Hornets despite his suspension and history of domestic violence. However, the Phoenix Suns are considered his "leader" at this time.
