NBA Rumor: Mavs Interested in Trade for Knicks’ Quentin Grimes
The Dallas Mavericks are a good basketball team, but if they want to be a great team, they’ll have to make necessary roster upgrades ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
Dallas’ biggest needs are at the starting power forward and backup center positions, but adding some extra 3-and-D wings wouldn’t hurt either.
According to the New York Post, New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau isn’t seeing eye-to-eye with 23-year-old Quentin Grimes, and the Mavs have interest in trading for him.
“Despite the front office’s hopes of rectifying the Grimes conundrum by dealing RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, Thibodeau hasn’t found extra minutes for his 23-year-old 3-and-D wing,” Stefan Bondy writes.
Draymond to Mavs? Dallas Betting Favorites in Trade
“The Knicks, per sources, are aware of Grimes’ frustration and are actively trying to move him before the Feb. 8 trade deadline. … There’s also a willingness, per sources, to take on multi-year deals that could be packaged in a later blockbuster. … A source said the Mavericks have expressed interest in Grimes.”
Through 155 career games, Grimes is averaging 8.7 points while shooting 44.0 percent overall, including 38.6 percent from deep. In theory, the Mavs could trade a player like Seth Curry to make a deal work financially.
