NBA Trade Idea: Would Draymond Green Fit with Dallas Mavs Alongside Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving?

In this hypothetical trade proposed by Bleacher Report, controversial Golden State Warriors' forward Draymond Green is sent to the Dallas Mavericks for Grant Williams and Richaun Holmes.

We've already discussed one hypothetical Draymond Green trade to the Dallas Mavericks on DallasBasketball.com that was proposed by an NBA reporter this week ... and it was a rough one. So why not give someone else another chance to change our minds?

In a recent trade proposal by Bleacher Report following the recent Green drama, the four-time champion is sent to the Mavs for Grant Williams, Richaun Holmes and a second-round pick. On paper, that doesn't seem like a bad deal for Dallas, but there's one big problem.

Green is facing an indefinite suspension for a hostile act committed against Phoenix Suns' center Jusuf Nurkic Tuesday night. He would be an interesting part of the Mavs defense, which has been in the bottom half of the NBA this season, but when would he be back from the suspension? And how long after that would it be before his next incident?

In this prospective trade, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is traded to the Dallas Mavericks in return for Grant Williams and Richaun Holmes.

Why the Mavs Take the Deal:

Sitting at No. 22 in the league in team defense (116.9 points allowed per game), the Mavs' defense has needed improvement this season. Although the defense has been better as of late, a shakeup like this could help Dallas become more of a complete unit on that end.

Green has finished top 10 in Defensive Player of the Year voting for the past three years, finishing fourth last season. His defensive abilities would drastically improve the Mavs frontcourt, making him and Dereck Lively II an imposing force in the paint.

Why the Mavs Don't Take the Deal:

What else is there to say about Green's reputation that hasn't already been said? The forward has been labeled a dirty player in the past for his antics both on and off the court.

Despite his defensive prowess, Green's lack of a consistent 3-point shot also makes him hard to fit alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, at least on the offensive side of the floor. While his 3-point shooting numbers this season are drastically improved, his sample size of only 18-42 (42.7 percent) from deep is still not enough to convince the Mavs to trade Williams, who is somewhat of a 'Draymond Green Lite' who shoots 38.4 percent shooting from deep.
