Woj Report: Mavs, Hornets ‘Discussing’ P.J. Washington Trade
The NBA trade deadline is just six hours away, and talks between front offices are picking up steam. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Dallas Mavericks and Charlotte Hornets are in active trade talks revolving around versatile forward P.J. Washington.
“Those teams talked today, they talked tonight," Wojnarowski said on ESPN late Wednesday night. "I think there’s still more conversation to be had. I think that’s largely off of draft compensation. ... So that’s one to watch.”
Woj also mentioned that the Mavs had discussions with the Washington Wizards revolving around Kyle Kuzma, who has been Dallas' top target. However, those talks stalled out, likely due to the Wizards' high asking price for Kuzma.
If the Mavs can pull off a trade for Washington without having to surrender Josh Green or their 2027 first-round pick, it would be a big win for the franchise going forward. Washington is averaging 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this season while shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from deep. Playing in Dallas next to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, though, those percentages would likely rise.
