NBA Personality Nick Wright Says That Zach Edey Could Be A Fit For The Miami Heat
The Miami Heat could add a star player this offseason via the NBA Draft.
Zach Edey, one of the best players in college basketball, will join an NBA roster this summer. NBA personality Nick Wright named the Heat as a possible landing spot.
“Bam can kinda extend the floor, I know he’s not the greatest shooter and Edey can play down low,” Wright said about Edey’s fit on the Heat’s roster. “I think there’s a place for him.”
Edey finished his college career on Monday as Purdue fell in the NCAA championship to UConn. Edey scored 37 of Purdue’s 60 points in the title game. He was also awarded the Naismith Trophy as the best player in men’s college basketball on Sunday. Edey became the first player since Ralph Sampson in the early 80s to win the award multiple times.
Edey would add some much-needed size to the Heat. His 7-foot-4 stature would instantly make him the tallest player on the roster. He would create a twin-towers combo with Bam Adebayo, similar to Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Edey’s lack of floor spacing would also be helped by a Heat time that has many quality three-point shooters. Duncan Robinson, Tyler Herro, and Terry Rozier are all legitimate threats from deep. Jimmy Butler is also shooting above 40 percent from three this season.
Most mock drafts project Edey to be a late first or early second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The Heat will have their own first-round pick this year that is projected to be just outside of the lottery.
