GAME PREVIEW AND INJURY REPORT: Brooklyn Nets vs. Memphis Grizzlies
Brooklyn Nets just had one of the best two-game stretches of the season after beating Play-In Tournament race rivals Atlanta Hawks. The Nets want to build from those massive wins with this upcoming game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
It is crucial for Brooklyn, as the team is the favorite against Memphis. The Grizzlies might’ve lost back-to-back games against the Trail Blazers, but they are only a couple of weeks removed from beating the Bucks, so the Nets should not underestimate the opponents.
The Grizzlies have a scrappy bunch
While most of Memphis’ biggest stars are out with injuries, the youngsters who are playing have shown they could be productive. Vince Williams Jr. has stood out, earning a multi-year contract after playing a year on a two-way deal. He is a superb defender who will likely be the matchup for Mikal Bridges.
GG Jackson II and Ziaire Williams are two players to look out for. Brooklyn will have the talent advantage, but the Grizzlies can make some noise, as they have the raw talent and the willingness to be the scrappier team.
Brooklyn has good momentum heading into this game, as Mikal finally broke out of his slump with a 38-point game against Atlanta on Saturday. His ability to be a go-to scorer can lead to fruitful results for the Nets, especially when the team is addressing Cameron Thomas’ ankle injury.
Watch out for Cameron Johnson, as he’s having a superb stretch recently. He averaged 26 points per game across the two wins against the Hawks. Playing like that against Memphis will likely mean Brooklyn will keep this streak up.
Injury Report
Coach Ollie is saying that both Cam Thomas and Ben Simmons are day-to-day with their injuries. This likely means that neither player will be on the court but is nearing a return to the active squad.
Memphis, on the other hand, has been ravaged by injuries. Star player Ja Morant is out for the season with a right shoulder surgery. Aside from Morant, the Grizzlies are missing Scotty Pippen Jr., Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane, and Brandon Clarke. Jaren Jackson Jr., Ziaire Williams, and Derrick Rose are all day-to-day with their injuries, which means they could feature in this game.
