Breaking: Kyrie Irving Demands Trade From Brooklyn Nets
It seemed like everything was going well recently for the Brooklyn Nets, but apparently, it was too good to be true. According to both Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania, Kyrie Irving has requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets and wants to be moved by the February 9 deadline. If they don't trade him, he will leave in free agency.
It's still not really known what exactly triggered this to cause Irving's trade request. The Brooklyn Nets had won 12 games straight this season when healthy, were close to the 1st seed, and seem to love playing with Jacque Vaughn. If there's a reason to assume this would happen, it's because the Brooklyn Nets may not have wanted to give Kyrie Irving the max contract he wanted.
Kyrie Irving has been very vocal about wanting to be a Brooklyn Net long-term, but also wanting the right contract. It seems like for whatever reason, the Nets didn't want to commit that to him, so he didn't want to commit with them.
The other big question is what exactly happens with Kevin Durant if Kyrie Irving leaves? Does Kevin Durant go back to requesting a trade to the Phoenix Suns as he did in the off-season? Does Kyrie Irving go to the Los Angeles Lakers like he originally wanted to? The Brooklyn Nets have serious questions to answer now if Kyrie Irving ultimately doesn't get paid and ends up leaving.
