It appears that the Brooklyn Nets aren't just entwined with the New York Knicks as crosstown rivals. Interestingly, they'll also be in a tight contest to win the Donovan Mitchell sweepstakes.

In the latest episode of The Hoop Collective podcast, ESPN's Brian Windhorst pointed out that the Nets and the Knicks are "riding on the line" and would have the best odds to re-sign Donovan Mitchell if the Cleveland Cavaliers decide to trade him.

"I would say the Knicks and the Nets are riding on the line," he said. "Those two teams where I think Donovan would have a chance of re-signing. If they got into a bidding war, I think that could be interesting."

Capable to bid for Spida

Due to whirling doubts about their competitive chances, there has been a persevering anxious narrative in Cleveland that Mitchell won't ink a contract extension with the Cavaliers. The All-Star will remain under contract until next year, but he could become an unrestricted free agent if he declines his 2025-26 player option.

The Knicks are widely viewed as favorites to land Spida, but it was recently reported that the Nets are also a must-watch team that can actively chase the star guard.

The Knicks might have a boatload of picks to entice the Cavs for a Mitchell trade, but the Nets are meanwhile capable and ready to put up a robust bidding fight. Thanks to the Kevin Durant blockbuster deal, they restored their draft capital, which they can unleash for future use and acquire a league star like Donovan.

Nets' chances to lock Spida long-term

In terms of their pitch to re-sign Spida should he get shipped, the Nets have the best core that can cater to his strengths and shield his weaknesses. Brooklyn's deep plethora of wings and contributors perfectly fit the 27-year-old's skill set and offensive explosion.

Donovan would love to get closer to home and feature a capable squad that perfectly matches his timeline and the franchise's goal for contention. Brooklyn has all the means, tools, and glamour to help him reach superstardom and eventually win it all.

Future circumstances remain uncertain, but the Nets truly have a shot that must be considered in hunting for Spida's service based on the fit, culture, and assets standpoints.
